Creating Set & Character Macquettes

Before creating the macquettes, we needed to make a decision on scale. In order to successfully animate the characters and sets, there had to be a balance in size; not too small and not too large - somewhere in the middle where enough detail could be made but we weren't creating unneccesary work for outselves. It was also important to consider the size of the animating box we had made.

Final Scale: [interior]1:7, [exterior] 1:10 & Technical Drawing Scale: 1:3

Character Heights [in reality and to scale]: Frederick 20cm-140cm, Doctor 26cm-182cm, Tray 10cm-60cm

Exterior Set: 70cm x 40cm

Interior Set [walls heights]: 34.5cm-241.5cm Interior Set [door height x width]: 28cm x 13.5cm -196cm x 94.5cm

Below you can see the collection of macquettes made [character cut outs and initial armature of tray included], before each set I've included the rough technical drawings I drew up that we used as a guide. More final technical drawings will be made before construction.

The Exterior Build [& interior staircase]:

Note: Adjustments need to be made to accomdate the 16:9 frame.

Note: As this is a miniature set, we didn't create a Marquette for it. However we came across a staircase in Wimbledon that works as a great reference for this particular design.

Frederick's Bedroom:

Apartment Corridor:

Note: Purposeful skewed perspective for this set in particular.

Apartment Kitchen:

Note: Size of table and chairs need to be readjusted to scale.

The following day we created a full set of character macquettes so I took some more shots comparing these to the interior sets, as can be seen below.

From Here: With dimensions and scales sorted, we're not in a position to start making. This Monday we're all going to make a trip to the 4D Model-Shop and the scrap store later in the week. We plan to make the next 2 weeks our limit, staying long days and working together.
